 Dear Friends, Rotarians, Rotaractors and representatives of world's civilized community! We know and understand that Rotary-Rotaract is standing far beyond the politics and all related issues but realized all these we still wish to send you a letter on behalf Georgian People, describing the awful situation which takes place here in Republic of Georgia. On August 7th, in Samachablo (so called South Osetia) the local bandits with support of Federal Security Service of Russian Federation (FSB) launched fire attack on Georgian civilians in near by villages. Same day Georgian Governmental troops took under control all the territory and withdraw all bandits out of administrative locations of the region. Unfortunately, those who are ex KGB agents and are in power in Russia and dream about bringing back the Soviet Union and its brutal system, launched serious bombing and shell attacks on August 8th, 2008. Despite all suggestions of cease fire from Georgian Government Russian Federal troops have bombed following cities: Zugdidi, Senaki, Kareli, Gori, Kaspi, Marneuli, Batumi, Khelvachauri, Poti, Kutaisi and even the capital of Georgia - Tbilisi. All airports, ports and other communication facilities were destroyed, only Tbilisi International Airport survived. Majority of economical and business facilities were attacked and bombed. City of Gori is totally empty and destroyed, city of Zugdidi and Senaki as well as Abkhazian Region and Samachablo Region are occupied by Russian Federal troops. The major pipelines are attacked. The hospitals and civilian complexes are attacked, ruined, destroyed. There are HUGE amount of civilians wounded and dead. All military facilities are attacked. Right now (August 12th, 2008) the Russian Federal Soldiers, Russian so called "Peace Keepers" and Osetian and Abkhazian band groups are entering various Georgian villages, killing people, raping and kidnapping females, rubbing and marauder all houses and administrative buildings. What we have felt, seen and watched during past days are not even describable, nothing happened to Georgia even medieval ages and even barbarians and war tribes of ancient centuries were more human and respectful. In XXI century we are the witnesses of brutal, aggressive and dangerous actions towards small and peaceful nation. We respect Russia and want to be in more than friendly relations with Russian people, but those who are in the top of the Russian Government do not realize that they lost their reputation. The anger and misunderstanding will be gone soon but DISAPPOINTMENT and DISTRUST will stay. We would like to ask you to pray for us and we count on your active support helping with refugees and homeless people. We need as much support as it can be possible. Dear All, Thank all of those who are contacting us, sending some donations to our Bank account and some humanitarian aid! We are working right now with 800 refugees (out of 60 000 ) and trying to supply them with food, cloth, first aid items, etc. Of course we need some more and more items everyday. We are also planning to be involved in rehabilitation process of city of Gori and especially assist those kids who lost both parents and those families who loose their houses and are in need. We will be very glad if you are going to continue (OR some of you will start) our assistance in the future as well.
